It is now the afternoon of Christmas Day where I live :-)
We had a 6am start opening presents (including some awesome LEGO ones). We had a cooked breakfast then went to our friends house for Christmas lunch, where we had barbecued chicken and steak and salad, with pavlova for dessert. We are having more friends over for Christmas dinner where we will play Wii and just have fun all night.
Have a fun, safe holiday everyone!
And remember, Jesus is the Reason for the Season

I hope everyone had a great christmas. I definitely did! I got a Lego Star Wars Swamp Speeder, Lego Harry Potter years 1-4 for DS (addictive), The Lego Book, and Standing Small (a book about Lego minifigs). My brother got a Lego Star Wars General Grievous' starfighter, Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga for DS, and the Lego Star Wars visual dictionary. Merry Christmas everyone! My family had a small get-together at our house with one of our aunts, it was alot of fun. I got Plo Koon's Starfighter, General Grievous' Starfighter, Prince of Persia Fight For the Dagger, Corporate Alliance Tank Droid, Ramses Pyramid, and the kingdoms impulse Jester and Wizard, and some Ranger's Apprentice books (awesome series by the way).
And remember, Jesus is the reason for the season!

Nice, joemhewitt!!

When I first got my Mindstorms set, I had no idea where to start. So many pieces, so many choices, so many possibilities. My advice is to start by building the model that comes in the instruction booklet. It gives you a feel for where pieces are supposed to be used, how to use them, and why they are important. And, it's a great NXT to learn programming on. Another tip I have is whenever you think of something you'd like to build in the future, write it down! I've often gone months without building due to lack of creativity or inspiration. Inspiration can also be found from the contests the LEGO Mindstorms team hold every once in a while (I make a post here whenever they have one, and try to enter all of them). After you are done with the beginner model LEGO gave you in your instruction booklet and are ready to move on to your own creation, keep it simple at first.

That's enough for now, but I would be thrilled to answer any questions you might have, or questions any other Mindstorm using readers of our blog have.

I built the basic model and got it to move and talk but the turning doesn't seem to work. I programmed it to do 670 degree turn and it didn't turn 90. ????

P.S It's very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very fun!

Here's a checklist for you...

Are the motors plugged into the correct ports?
Are the wheels all the way on?
Is the battery charged enough?

If the answer to all the above questions is yes, it's probably a programming issue. For the programming, you used the "move" block, correct?

Thank's ChesireCat. I'm trying that now.

The reason it was'nt working was because I was the duration and degrees part of the block not the steering part.

Ah, so you've got it all figured out now?
